The Wisconsin Quarter was the final release for the series during 2004. It was the 30th quarter for the series in total, signifying Wisconsin as the 30th state in the Union.
The design of the Wisconsin quarter features a cow, a wheel of cheese, and an ear of corn. The word ‘Forward’ is printed on a banner beneath the images, signifying the state motto which was chosen because Wisconsin wanted to be a leader. The images signify Wisconsin’s agriculture and dairy industries, which are a large part of the economy.
Wisconsin was adopted as a state in 1848, and borders Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, and Illinois. It also borders Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. The property has belonged to the United States since the end of the American Revolution, and the Wisconsin Territory was formed on July 3, 1846. Before becoming a state, there were two border wars with Michigan, in 1934 and 1935.
Wisconsin was first explored by the French in 1634, and then transferred to Britain by French settlers in 1763. It was under British control until the end of the Revolutionary War, when the United States took over. The economy has always been based in farming, mining, and lumbering. Dairy farming has been a mainstay in the economy for years, as has the harvesting of corn. After the turn of the 20th century, Wisconsin’s economy began to benefit from industrial companies and the products that they created by settling in the state formerly known for dairy and corn.
